CINCINNATI -- A former lover of the woman at the center of the controversy surrounding Hamilton County Prosecutor Mike Allen told WLWT News 5 exclusively that he's surprised the woman has filed a sexual harassment suit against Allen.
"She described him as a boyfriend, never in terms of coercion or harassment," said "John," who wished to remain anonymous.
John said he and Rebecca Collins spent plenty of time together last year.
"We were together pretty much every day," he said. "I was close to her. I really enjoyed being with her."
John said when when he started dating Collins, it was common knowledge that she once had had a mutual relationship with the prosecutor, WLWT reported.
He said he knew "that it was a consensual loving relationship that they had." In fact, John said he was concerned that she still had feelings for Allen.
"She said when they first started dating, she was very much in love with him, and she wanted him to leave his wife and make a life with her," John said. "But it just didn't happen."
And with regard to the harassment charge, John said he was shocked to hear about Collins' lawsuit last week.
"It was actually somewhat the opposite, that she knew she could come in late," he said. "And she knew she could not be the best worker because she was somewhat untouchable."
WLWT went to Collins' home to get a response to John's comments, but she wasn't home, and she has not returned calls.
Allen's attorney, Michael Hawkins, said John isn't the only one calling Collins' bluff, WLWT reported.
"It was nothing but a consensual relationship," Hawkins said. "She wanted to marry Mike. She hoped to be the first lady."
John said he and Collins haven't talked since they parted ways last year, but he insisted he isn't speaking out in revenge, WLWT reported.
Collins' attorneys maintain that the relationship could not have been consensual if Allen was her boss.
